Sending greetings to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) is one of the most honourable acts of worship. When you do that rewards are written, sins are pardoned, and a person’s rank is raised.

“Whoever sends Salah upon me once, Allah would send Salah upon him tenfold, erase 10 sins from him, and raise him ten degrees in rank,” Allah’s Messenger (saw) declared.

[Narrated by Nasai #1297 V.3 Pg.50]

“On the Day of Judgement, the person closest to me is the one who sent the greatest Salat upon me,” Allah’s Messenger (saw) remarked. [Tirmithi #484 narrated it and claimed it was sound (hasan gharib)]

The Messenger of Allah (saw) stated about salat and durood, especially on Fridays:

“Friday is one of your best days. It was on it that Adam was made, and it was on it that his (soul) was taken, and it is on it that the Trumpet blows, and it is on it that the Swoon is. As a result, enhance the frequency with which you send your Salat to me, because your Salat to me are given to me.” “O Messenger of Allah!” they exclaimed. And how will our Salat be delivered to you when you have passed away?” “Indeed, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has forbidden the earth from (destruction) the bodies of the Prophets,” he said. [Ibn Khuzaimah #1733 and Ibn Hibban #910 in their separate Saheehs, and Hakim in Mustadrak 1/278 He added, It is authentic on the conditions of Bukhari and Zahabi agreed.]

“I love to send plenty of salat upon the Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ) all the time, and I enjoy it even more on the day of Jumuah,” Imam Shafe’e used to say based on this. [Kitabul Umm 1/546]

As a result, there are numerous benefits to reciting salat and salam (durood) every day, especially on Fridays. These benefits can be obtained regardless of the wordings used for salat and salam (durood).

There is a hadith that states that salat was salaam (durood) after Asr on Friday:

من صلى صلاة العصر من يوم الجمعة فقال قبل أن يقوم من مكانه [اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِنِ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيْمًا] ثمانين مرة غفرت له ذنوب ثمانين عاما وكتبت له عبادة ثمانين سنة

“On Fridays, whomever remains seated after the ‘Asr salah and recites the following shall have 80 years of sins forgiven and 80 years of worship recorded for him.”

[اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدِنِ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَسَلِّمْ تَسْلِيْمًا]

“Allahum-ma Sal-li A’laa Muhammadi-nin-Nabi-yil Um-mi wa A’laa Aa-li-hi wa sal-lim Tasleemaa”

“O Allah, send salat upon Muhammad, the unlettered Prophet, and his family, as well as salams.”

Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Abasoomer, the Muhaddith, remarked about this hadith:

“This hadith is accompanied by a few exceedingly shaky chains, one of which is currently untraceable. However, later Muhaddithun categorised the following narration as “hasan” (sound), and it is comparable to the aforementioned hadith.

“Whoever send salawats to me 80 times on a Friday will have their sins pardoned for 80 years.” When the Sahabah (Allah bless them) asked how they could achieve that, Rasulullah ( ﷺ ) replied:

‘Say:

[اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَنَبِيِّكَ وَرَسُوْلِكَ النَّبِّيِ الْأُمِّيِّ]

“Allahumma sal-li ‘ala Muhammadin ‘ab-di-ka wa nabiy-yika wa rasu-li-kan nabiy-yil um-miyy”

“O Allah, send salat upon Muhammad, Your servant, Your Prophet, Your Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet,” says the prophet. (Daraqutni; Al-Qawlul badi’, pg.400; Sharhul Ihya, vol.3, pg.286)

This one has been deemed sound (hasan) by Imam ‘Iraqi and others.” (Al-Qawlul Badi’, p.400, and Sharhul Ihya, vol.3, p.286)

It’s also worth noting that Friday after Asr is regarded a particularly auspicious and favourable period. Salat and Salam (Durood) blessings will undoubtedly grow.

“There is an opportune period on Friday,” Allah’s Messenger (saw) said, “and if a Muslim gets it while praying and begs Allah for something, Allah would undoubtedly meet his demand.” And he (the Prophet) used his hands to emphasise the shortness of that period. [Bukhari #935] [Bukhari #935] [Bukhari #935

The most widely held belief is that this sacred period occurs between Asr and Sunset, and many researchers agree with this viewpoint. [See Fathul Baari, Volume Three, Pages 218-228.]
