Dos and don’ts of Ramadan
2 min read
The ninth Islamic month of Ramadan is considered auspicious for two reasons. The Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) on Laylat al-Qadr in this month. And fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of Islam’s Five Pillars.
Aside from fasting, Muslims observe a series of rules that they must obey. Devout Muslims believe that Ramadan promotes self-discipline, self-control, worldwide brotherhood, and empathy for those who are less fortunate. Know what a Muslim must and must not do during the holy month of Ramadan this year.
Do these things in Ramadan
1.Do not forget to recite the Quran.
During the month of Ramadan, Muslims are expected to read the Holy Quran as muclh as possible. As previously said, Allah’s teachings came down from heaven in the shape of the Quran, which was initially revealed to Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) in this month.
2. Pray Five times a day on time
Five times a day, prayers must be observed. During Ramadan, a day begins with Fajr (dawn), then Zhuhr (middle of the day), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (evening), and Isha (night).
Keep a quick pace.
Fasting is one of Islam’s Five Pillars. As a result, Muslims are supposed to fast for the entire month of Ramadan. During the month of Ramadan it is also claimed that the spiritual benefits of fasting are multiplied.
3.Donate and help people who are in need.
As Ramadan promotes compassion and fraternity, reach out to those in need. Donate a portion of your money (Zakat) to charitable causes. This is also one of Islam’s Five Pillars.
4. Practice self-control, self-discipline, and staying cool.
Muslims are encouraged to be calm and practise self-discipline and self-control during this month of compassion.
Do remember Allah always and increase good works
Keep your vows of celibacy and devote your time to dhikr and good works.
Don’ts of Ramadan
1.During the fasting period, do not eat or drink anything, not even smoking.
Fasting is the most important responsibility during Ramadan, therefore don’t eat or drink anything between sunrise and sundown. During the month of Ramadan, all adult Muslims fast, with the exception of those who are sick, old, or pregnant/breastfeeding/menstruating women. Those who are sick or pregnant, on the other hand, compensate by fasting at a later time.
2.Music/songs should not be listened to.
Spend time praying and remembering Allah. Listen to no music or tunes.
3.Don’t waste your time.
Make good use of your time instead of watching TV, sleeping too much, or shopping. Keep in mind that Ramadan is a time for cultivating discipline.
4.Do not slander or disparage others.
Do not engage in a discourse that is full of rumours and lies.
