Here are some great strategies for you to try:

  1. Stay put: “After Isha Prayers, perform Zikr (remembrance) for a bit.” The more you perform, the sooner you will up in the morning for Zikr.”
  2. No chit-chatting! “After Isha Prayers, do not speak to anyone.” Although the Holy Prophet (saw) did occasionally resume his discourse after Isha, he had generally forbidden it. There are two main reasons for this: a) If you begin conversing, you will fall asleep late and be unable to rise early in the morning. b) Your attention will be diverted if the discourse is about something other than faith. After Isha, office work or other critical assignments are not prohibited. … It is preferable to spend some time in Zikr before going to sleep in that scenario.”
  3. Freshen up: “Perform Wudu before going to bed, even if you are already ablution.” It has an effect on the heart and gives you a unique sense of well-being. You will wake up in the same condition if you go to bed in that state of freshness. Someone who smiles at bedtime is likely to smile when he wakes up; someone who is crying at bedtime is likely to wake up crying. You will be fresh when you sleep and fresh when you get up if you use ablution.”
  4. Turn out the lights: “Recite some Zikr before going to bed; this may induce you to wake up during the night for Zikr.” Before going to sleep, the Holy Prophetsaw used to perform Zikr in the following manner:

He recited Ayatul-Kursi in the first place (verse 2:256)

b) The Holy Qur’an’s last three chapters.

c) He then gently blew on his hands and passed them three times over his body.

c) He then shifted his weight to his right and said:

“O ALLAH, WITH COMPLETE INCLINATION AND FEAR OF THEE, I PUT MYSELF IN THY PROTECTION AND TURN MY FACE TOWARDS THEE AND ASSIGN ALL MY AFFAIRS TO THEE.” THERE IS NO REFUGE OR PROTECTION FROM THEE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THYSELF. I BELIEVE IN THY BOOK, WHICH YOU HAVE REVEALED, AND IN THY PROPHET, WHICH YOU HAVE SENT.”

  1. Mental fortitude: “Resolve to get up for Tahajjud before going to bed.” God Almighty has given man the ability to command his thoughts to do what he wants… Make a determined decision to rise for Tahajjud. Your mind will be awake while your body sleeps. It will wake you up at the precise moment you specify.”

6. True grit:“The sixth approach is exclusively for individuals who are very strong in faith,” says the author. After Isha, instead of performing Vitr (three Raka’at are required), save Vitr for Tahajjud… If the Vitr aren’t delivered, the soul will become restless and awaken him. Only those who are strong in faith should use this procedure; those who are weak may even be deprived of the Vitr.”

Every day during Jalsa, there is a congregational Tahajjud.

7. Spiritual workout:“The seventh way is also for individuals who have excelled in spirituality,” says the author. They should begin offering Nawafil following the Isha Prayer and continue until they fall asleep during the prayers and are overcome by slumber. Despite the fact that their total sleep duration will be reduced, they will be awake during the hour of Tahajjud. This practise is a spiritual workout.”

8. Bed or the floor?:“The eighth way has been practised by many Sufis,” says the author. I’ve never felt the need for it, but it’s a good idea. If you have a habit of sleeping too much, switch from a soft to a firm bed.”

  1. Go easy on the calories: “Dinner should be eaten several hours before bedtime.” Eat either before or after the Maghrib Prayer. The spirit is sometimes active, though the body is not. The body operates like a yoke, strangling the spirit if it is too heavy. At bedtime, the stomach should not be full. It has a negative impact on the heart and makes a man sluggish.”
  2. Is your bed clean? “The bed should be clean. Many people are unconcerned about this issue. Keep in mind that the cleanliness of your bed has a direct impact on your spirituality. Take extra precautions in this regard.”
  3. Love for all, hatred for none: “The last option is by far the best. It aids in the preparation of Tahajjud and protects one from a variety of faults and flaws. Consider whether you have any malice, rancour, or prejudices against anyone before going to bed. If this is the case, it should be removed. You will be able to get up for Tahajjud after this practise has purified you.”
