Kuwait to print 100K Swedish translations of the Quran

The Kuwaiti Cabinet has agreed to print 100,000 copies of the Holy Quran in Swedish after a tragic incident in Stockholm that saw the burning of the Quran. According to the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the head of the Kuwaiti Cabinet, has started this endeavour.

These copies were printed by the General Authority for Printing and Publishing the Holy Quran in Kuwait, and distribution of the translated editions throughout Sweden was organised with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Kuwaiti Cabinet claimed in a statement that this action highlights how tolerant Islam is. It aspires to promote healthy inter-human coexistence and the dissemination of Islamic ideas and values. Additionally, it aims to emphasise Islam’s kindness and condemn hate, extremism, and religious intolerance.

A Swedish event on June 28 garnered strong criticism from the Arab and Muslim countries. Salwan Momika, a 37-year-old Iraqi resident of Sweden, ran over the Muslim holy book and lit several of its pages on fire close to Stockholm’s main mosque. Following a court order, the Swedish police were able to carry out this conduct, which caused widespread outrage and condemnation.

Kuwait wants to mitigate the effects of such disruptive occurrences by promoting a more rounded understanding of Islam and its teachings through this effort.
