The 10 Companions who are promised Jannah
2 min read
The admission to Jannat-ul-Firdaus is something that all men of faith strive for. Paradise is always within grasp for a believer, lest we deviate from the path that leads to there. Only Allah (SWT) knows who will be granted access to Paradise on the Day of Judgment, and only Allah (SWT) knows who will be granted entry to Paradise.
There are, however, people who were so favoured by Allah (SWT) throughout their existence on earth that they were promised Paradise in the hereafter. These ten people are known as “Ashara Mubashara,” or “the ten who were promised paradise,” and they are:
Hazrat Abu Bakr ibn Abu Quhafa
Hazrat Omer ibn Khattab
Hazrat Usman ibn Affan
Hazrat Ali ibn Abu Talib
Hazrat Talha ibn Ubaydillah
Hazrat Zubayr ibn al-Awwaam
Hazrat AbdurRahman ibn ‘Awf
Hazrat Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas
Hazrat Sa’id ibn Zayd
Hazrat Abu ‘Ubayda, ‘Aamir ibn ‘Abdillah ibn al-Jarrah

During his lifetime, our Holy Prophet (PBUH) personally gave these ten people the good news of Jannah. He is recorded to have said these ten names in a hadith referring to those companions for whom Allah (SWT) has pre-ordained Paradise as a reward for their devotion to Islam.
The Prophet (PBUH) said in a hadith recounted by Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Awf:
“Abu Bakr will be in Paradise, ‘Umar will be in Paradise, ‘Usmaan will be in Paradise, ‘Ali will be in Paradise, Talhah will be in Paradise, al-Zubayr will be in Paradise, ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf will be in Paradise, Sa’d will be in Paradise, (Al-Tirmidhi narrates: 3680)
This rite of passage to Paradise was given to these companions in recognition of their strong devotion to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the services and sacrifices they performed for the benefit of Islam and all that it represented. All 10 of these companions were of excellent character and had always stood by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in the face of adversity. They stayed at a place where many had abandoned the Prophet (PBUH). They all converted to Islam in the early years of its existence. They had complete faith not just in the Prophet (PBUH), but also in Allah (SWT). They blindly followed the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and assisted in the spread of Islam in as many ways as possible.
However, Allah (SWT) promises Paradise to all of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) companions and those who strive in the path of Islam in the Quran. Allah (SWT) offers hope to all the other companions of the Prophet (PBUH) who remained by him through thick and thin and served the cause of Islam, just as he did to the 10 individuals who were given glad tidings of Paradise during their lifetime. There is hope for all of us who have a strong and unwavering faith and dedicate our life to Islam and everything it entails.
