The Premier League will pause games during Ramadan for Muslim players

Premier League and English Football League referees have been asked to halt evening games to give Muslim players a chance to break their fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
According to Sky Sports, governing bodies for sporting events instructed match officials to delay play so that players could break their fast by consuming fluids or supplements and energy gels.
Some of the best players in the Premier League are Muslims who observe Ramadan. These players include Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, N’Golo Kante of Chelsea, and Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City.
Depending on when the moon is sighted, Ramadan, a month of worship and introspection for Muslims, will begin on Thursday and last until around 21 April, during which time Muslims will abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset.
Before the game begins, referees should make note of any players who are observing Ramadan and will need to break their fast during the game.
Referees, according to Sky Sports, should allow for a “natural pause” in the game, such as a goal kick or a throw-in, and establish a general time for breaking the fast.
In the first half of last year’s Burnley vs. Southampton game, the players from Southampton were given time out to break their Ramadan fast.
In April of 2021, Wesley Fofana was allowed to break his fast during a Leicester match against Crystal Palace.
