AMMAN: “Dammi Falastini,” the popular song by Palestinian musician Mohammed Assaf, has been taken down from Spotify.
Roya News reported on Sunday that the performer of the song, whose title translates to “My Blood is Palestinian,” received an official email explaining why the song had been removed due to antisemitic allegations.
The action by the music streaming company was met with widespread criticism online.
An account using the handle @imanabid on Twitter said, “Spotify banning ‘Dammi Falastini’ is ridiculous. It takes something absolutely absurd to get everyone stop talking about us. Our words, our food, our music. Play his song again right now.
Spotify removing Dammi Falastini is insane. The absolute ridiculousness it takes to silence everything about us. Our words, our food, our music.

Reinstate his song now.
This is according to a tweet by @hourlykorra: “‘Dammi Falastini’ being pulled from Spotify and Apple Music. For what reason are we being muzzled?
Another user, @jennineak, called the decision “outrageous” and noted that the music had been taken off from all of the streaming services.
On Instagram, Assaf responded, “That’s fine. It lives on in the memories of all free and honourable people.
Assaf, who has lived in Gaza since he was four years old, shot to fame in 2013 after he won “Arab Idol.” It’s been eight years since the release of his “Dammi Falastini,” yet in that time it’s come to represent Palestinian pride and solidarity.
