What is Istikhara?
1 min read
Istikhara is a religious practice in Islam that involves seeking guidance and making decisions with the help of Allah (God). The term “Istikhara” itself means “seeking goodness” or “seeking the best” in Arabic. It is a way for Muslims to ask for divine guidance when they are faced with a difficult decision or choice in their lives, such as marriage, career, or any significant life event.
Here’s how Istikhara is typically performed:
- Sincere Intention: Before beginning Istikhara, one should have a sincere and clear intention in their heart about the decision they are seeking guidance for.
- Prayer: A specific prayer called the “Salat al-Istikhara” is performed. In this prayer, one seeks Allah’s guidance and asks for His wisdom in making the right decision.
- Supplication: After the prayer, a supplication is recited, asking Allah for guidance, clarity, and the best outcome in the matter being considered.
- Trusting in Allah: After performing Istikhara, a person should trust that Allah will guide them in the right direction. They may also pay attention to their feelings, thoughts, and circumstances over the next few days, as it is believed that Allah may provide guidance through one’s heart, dreams, or external events.
It’s important to note that Istikhara is not a means of predicting the future or receiving a clear “yes” or “no” answer to a specific question. Rather, it is a way for Muslims to seek Allah’s guidance and make decisions in a manner that aligns with their faith.
