The adhan, or call to prayer, captured the attention of a well-known Brazilian sports influencer in Qatar this week while he was visiting one of the mosques in Doha.
Carter Batista, who was in Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, tweeted a footage of the call to prayer on his social media sites and called it “one of the best things” he saw there.
“I heard the adhan, an ancient custom that urges Muslims to attend their daily prayers and is repeated multiple times throughout the day, as I was standing in front of a mosque. In a translation by Al Jazeera, Carter stated in Portuguese, “I was moved by it. It was one of the nicest things I’ve seen here in Qatar.
Carter just came in the Gulf nation for the important competition, according to the Qatar-based news network, and has since posted online about his experiences.
Local and regional social media publications as well as users of the platforms shared Carter’s Instagram post and video of the adhan.
First World Cup in Muslim Country
The World Cup is being used as a gateway to introduce Islam and the rich culture of the Arabs.
At least 1.5 million spectators are expected to travel to the Gulf nation for the event, some of them might be going to the area or Qatar for the very first time.
As the first nation to host the event, Qatar has introduced its culture to supporters travelling there for the World Cup through a number of initiatives.
“Host-A-Fan” is one of these programmes, which allows families all throughout Qatar to host visitors as part of a cross-cultural exchange. This emphasises the value of hospitality, which is essential to Qatari heritage and culture.
