When a female worshipper experienced labour pains in the mosque’s courtyards the other day, Saudi Red Crescent volunteers working in the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah had the extraordinary experience of delivering a baby.

The volunteer team from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) linked to the ambulance facility on the grounds of the Al-Haram was able to assist the mother in giving birth to her child safely, according to Dr. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Zahrani, Director General of the SRCA’s Madinah branch. Reported by Saudi Gazette

Dr. Al-Zahrani emphasised that the woman was in a critical condition and on the verge of giving delivery when the teams got on the scene.

The woman was showing signs of labour since she was having contractions. The SRCA team reported that her water had ruptured and the baby’s head had already emerged.

Following stringent guidelines for such cases, the crew sprang into action and began helping the woman give birth. Support was provided by a medical professional who was present at the scene.

Dr. Al-Zahrani said that after the baby was delivered successfully, the mother and child were taken to the Bab Jibril Health Center for additional examinations. He said that such instances required urgent medical treatment.

He said that due of the team’s advanced medical training as healthcare professionals, the baby was delivered safely.

Dr. Al-Zahrani emphasised the significance of dialling 997 to notify the ambulance service of any emergency. The Asafny app and the SOS function of the Tawakkalna app both offer ways to get in touch with the ambulance service. In addition to saving time and effort in getting to the scene and providing assistance, this will enable the ambulance team to pinpoint the caller’s location with a high degree of accuracy.
