The Quran and Sahih Al-Bukhari were translated into Korean for the first time by a Korean Muslim, Dr. Hamid Choi Yong Kil.

According to media reports, this translation job took almost 7 years to complete. He currently works as a lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Studies at a university in South Korea in addition to being a preacher.

He had studied at the Saudi Arabian Islamic University in Madinah. All of Choi’s scientific work includes the Korean translations of writings and Shahih Bukhari.

In addition, Choi has authored or translated more than 90 additional works.

This occurs as South Korea’s Muslim population is gradually growing. Islam is still a minority religion, but during the past ten years, thanks to tourism and immigration, it has seen substantial development.

The Korean Muslim Federation estimates that there are currently around 200,000 Muslims in the country, which is only 0.38 percent of the total population. The majority are immigrants from Turkey, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan who came to Korea as students and employees and have since applied for Korean citizenship.
