One Verse of the Quran Changed His life

Although Al-Fudayl ibn ‘Iyaad was known for his piety and worship, he was not always a devout Muslim. Al-Fudayl was a notorious highway robber in his early years, prowling the road between Abu Ward and Sarakhas at night hunting victims. Between these two towns was a little village where Al-Fudayl had fallen in love with a girl. Al-Fudayl scaled the wall of her house one night, desperate to be with her. He heard a voice say, “Has the time not arrived for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah…” as he climbed over it. Ayah 16 of Surah Al-Hadeed 57

“O my Lord, the time has come,” Al-Fudayl replied at that point. He returned to where he had come from and took refuge near a passing caravan on the main road. They were engrossed in a serious conversation. “Let us resume our journey now,” one of them said to Al-Fudayl. “No, not till the morning,” another replied, “because Al-Fudayl is lurking on the road somewhere out there, just waiting to rob us.”
Al-Fudayl thought to himself after hearing the entire dialogue, “I go out late at night to sin, but a bunch of Muslims stay because they are afraid of me. Indeed, I believe Allah has brought me to them solely for the purpose of reforming my character. I truly repent to you, O Allah!”
