The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah advises pilgrims to perform Umrah once during Ramadan.
The ministry advised Muslims to only perform Umrah once during the holy month to reduce crowding and ensure a smooth pilgrimage.
Saudi authorities worried about overcrowding at holy sites before the COVID-19 pandemic to keep pilgrims safe.
The Nusuk app lets Muslims from around the world apply for an eVisa and book flights and hotels for the pilgrimage.
Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, can be done year-round except during Hajj.
Umrah requests peak during Ramadan, when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.
Ramadan began March 23 and ends April 21.
