A Qatari official told Reuters on Monday that atar has donated portacabins and mobile homes, which were used for the FIFA World Cup 2022 to shelter football fans in the country, to earthquake-hit areas in Turkey and Syria.

People who were rendered homeless as a result of the powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria last Monday will be housed in the portacabins. As of Tuesday, February 14, more than 36,000 people had died as a result of the earthquake.

The official told Reuters that a ship carrying the first 350 units departed Qatar for Turkey on Sunday.

“We have decided to deploy our cabins and caravans to the region, offering much-needed and immediate relief to the people of Turkey and Syria,” the official told Reuters in response to the urgent requirements in Turkey and Syria.
The Qatar Fund for Development tweeted on Sunday that Qatar had promised to supply 10,000 mobile homes to earthquake zones.

According to Reuters, the cabins were set up by Qatar’s World Cup on vacant desert stretches surrounding Doha to host visitors for the World Cup.

Fans who stayed in the housing units paid about $200 per night, which prevented a housing crisis during the month-long competition that took place from November to December.
