Muslims believe that Allah, the Almighty and the All-Wise, created the heavens and the earth. He alone knows what is good for humans and what is harmful.

And Allah has revealed verses in the Quran explaining what is permissible and what is forbidden.

Here is a list of industries that Muslims cannot consult or advise because of their Islamic faith:

1)    Financial services that include interest, speculation, or gambling transactions

a.    Banks

b.    Insurance

c.     Derivatives traders

d.    Casino/online lotteries

e.    Betting

2)    Companies whose principal source of income is from alcohol, pork products

3)    Tobacco, Marijuana, and intoxicants

4)    Music and adult entertainment

5)    Arms manufacturers and mercenary organizations

6)    Organizations whose primary goal is to promote homosexuality, sex outside marriage, surrogacies for unmarried couples

7) Temples, churches, synagogues, and organizations that promote the worship of other gods besides Allah, the Almighty and the All-Wise.

Some verses of the Quran that forbid alcohol, intoxicants, gambling, interest and homosexuality

  1. Alcohol: “O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, and drawing lots for decisions are all evil of Satan’s handiwork. So shun them so you may be successful.” (5:90)
  1. Homosexuality: “And ˹remember˺ when Lot scolded ˹the men of˺ his people, ˹saying,˺ ‘Do you commit a shameful deed that no man has ever done before? You lust after men instead of women! You are certainly transgressors.'” (7:80-81)
  1. Gambling: “They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about intoxicants and gambling. Say, ‘There is great evil in both, as well as some benefit for people—but the evil outweighs the benefit.'” (2:219)
  1. Usury: “Those who consume interest will stand ˹on Judgment Day˺ like those driven to madness by Satan’s touch. That is because they say, ‘Trade is no different than interest.’ But Allah has permitted trading and forbidden interest. Whoever refrains—after having received warning from their Lord—may keep their previous gains, and their case is left to Allah. As for those who persist, it is they who will be the residents of the Fire. They will be there forever.” (2:275)
