Swedish media say that Iraqi immigrant Salwan Momika will be deported and will not be able to come back to Sweden for five years because he organised multiple protests in Sweden to disrespect the Holy Quran. His residence permit has not been extended.

The Swedish immigration department said that Momika will be deported because it is hard to remove people right away. She had been given a temporary residence pass from October 25, 2023, to April 16, 2024.

Many countries and Islamic groups were very angry at the 37-year-old man’s actions, which included burning and defiling copies of the Holy Quran in different places in Sweden. At the first protest, which happened on June 28 outside of Stockholm’s main mosque, Momika tore up and burned some pages from the Bible.

Iraq asked the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) to arrest Momika in Sweden and send him back to Baghdad because of what he did.

On July 26, the United Nations passed a resolution that all acts of violence against holy books are illegal and should be condemned. The resolution was brought up by Morocco.
