Western media sources have come under fire in recent weeks for their racial portrayals of the World Cup in Qatar, namely the Moroccan team.
A Danish channel has come under criticism after the host on live air compared Moroccan players and their mothers to monkeys.
In a broadcast on TV 2 News, the host Soren Lippert brought up a picture of monkeys cuddling while discussing how the Moroccan national team players hugged their mothers.
Inspiring videos of the national team celebrating their historic victories at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar have gone viral throughout the globe. Many have referred to them as a unique example of an Arab culture that has been positively influenced the West.
“European societies are deeply racist and have a huge problem acknowledging it. They call everything “humour” but truth is that they turnt themselves into a disgusting joke and the rest of the world makes fun of them,” Austro-Afghan journalist, Emran Feroz commented.
Another Twitter user said: “Western media is comparing Arabs to monkeys. So-called civilized world.”
“They aren’t even trying to water down the racism anymore it’s like yeah y’all Moroccans are monkeys?????” one Twitter said.
