Dua to read before exam

It’s that time of year when people all over the world are studying for impending examinations with their noses buried in books, notes, and power points. You’re undoubtedly worried simply thinking about those examinations, whether you’re a college student preparing for the GRE or final exams, or a high school student preparing for the big SAT. Don’t worry, we’ve put up a list of duas that you should carry in your pocket and on your tongue before the test.

SEEKING KNOWLEDGE:

These ayahs from Surah Taha (Verses 25-28) were Prophet Musa’s (peace be upon him) request for help with his speech fluency. He would recite this dua in times of distress in order to gain Allah’s (swt) compassion. This supplication, out of all the duas for students, can be used for standardised tests as well as to help you enhance your speech both orally and in writing. Before giving a lecture, a large interview, or any other moment when you might require it, recite this duaa:

Rabbish rahlee Sadreee, wayassirlee amri wahlul uqdatam millisani yafqahu Qouli

“O Sustainer of my Life! Open my heart and make my duty easier for me, and loosen the knot in my tongue so people can fully comprehend what I’m saying.”

PRIOR TO STUDYING:

Allaahumma akrimnee binooril fahmi wa kharrajanee min z’ulumaatil wahmi waftah’ a’lainaa abwaaba i’lmak. Wan shur a’lainaa khuzzaanu ma’rifatika yaa arh’amar raah’imeen. Allaahumma waffiqnee fil mut’aala’ti bih’ablee jamee-i’ mushkilaatil masaa-ili minal kutubi birah’matika yaa arh’amar raah’imeen.

“Oh Allah, honour me by the light of understanding and deliver me from the darkness of doubt, and open the doors of your knowledge and the wealth of your recognition to us, oh the most Merciful of the Merciful ones. Oh Allah, and please give me ability so that I can study and solve all of the tough difficulties using books. Oh the best of the merciful ones, by your mercy.”

AFTER STUDYING:

Allahumma inni astaodeeka ma qara’tu wama hafaz-tu. Farudduhu ‘allaya inda hajati elahi.

“Allah bless you! I trusted you with everything I’ve read and researched. Thank you, Allah! Return it to me after you’re done using it. Thank you, Allah! You may do as you like; you are my helper, guardian, and closest ally.”

FOR HAVING CONCENTRATION

Salla-l-laahu alaa Muhammad wa aal-e Muhammad. Allahumma inni as’aluka yaa mudhakkira-l khayr wa faa’ilahu wa-l-aamimira bihi dhakir-ni maa ansaani-hi-shaytan.

“Allah’s blessings be upon Muhammad and his descendants. I beseech you, O Allah, who mentions virtue, actualizes it, and demands it, to remind me of what the shaytan has made me forget.”

TO REMEMBER THINGS THAT ARE FORGOTTEN:

Our Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) gave Imam Ali the following dua’a to be repeated after every required Salaat in order to establish a perfect memory. Who wouldn’t desire a perfect memory? Make it a habit, or at the very least increase the number of times you recite this dua before the test:

“Glory be to Him who does not treat His Kingdom’s residents unjustly and brutally, glory be to Him who does not allow misery and pain to strike mankind unexpectedly, glory be to the Compassionate, the Merciful.” Fill my heart and mind with true enlightenment, discriminating wisdom, rapid insight, and knowledge, for you alone are capable of everything.”

WHEN STUDYING DIFFICULT SUBJECTS:

“Allah bless you! Nothing is simple except what You have simplified. You can make the difficult simple if you want.”
