There are a lot of dua which has different meaning and purpose. But this Dua is sufficient for everything and considered to be one of the best Duas.

Riyad As-Salihin has the following hadith:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was recorded saying to a man who asked “How can I feel at ease when the Angel of the Trumpet, (Israfil, one of the four arc angels) has put his lips to the Trumpet and is waiting for the order to blow it”.

He (ﷺ) perceived as if this had shocked his Companions, so he (ﷺ) told them to seek comfort through reciting: Hasbunallah wa ni’mal-Wakil.

This saying is also mentioned in the Qur’an by Allah (swt) who revealed in Surah Al Imran in the following verse 173:

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ

Transliteration: Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal-Wakil

Translation: ‘Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs.’

The Sunnah and Etiquettes of Making Dua

Ibn Abbas narrated:

When (Prophet) Ibrahim (Abraham) was thrown into the fire, he said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and, He is the Best Disposer of affairs.” So did Messenger of Allah Muhammad (ﷺ) when he was told: “A great army of the pagans had gathered against him, so fear them”. But this (warning) only increased him and the Muslims in Faith and they said: “Allah (Alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)”. [Al-Bukhari].

Submitting to Allah’s will and placing your affairs in His hands is like letting go of a heavy burden. In one’s life, it is a spiritual healing touch. It is stated in the Quran: “And whoever relies upon Allah, then He is sufficient for him.” (Qur’an, 65:3)

‘Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal Wakeel’ is a simple statement to remember, and inshallah, it will give you enormous power to overcome everything you face.
