We must have and demonstrate respect in order to have a healthy connection with anyone. We must think positively of the person with whom we are involved and believe that he or she possesses attributes worthy of our attention and esteem.

This is true to a much greater extent in our connection with Allah (SWT). God teaches us His names and traits so that we can get to know Him and comprehend how much we should admire and respect Him.

Learning God’s names and traits will increase our respect and awe for Him.

Respect for Him entails not only understanding His names and traits, but also thinking good of Him. This is necessary for our relationship with Him to work. According to the Prophet (PBUH):

One of the signs of excellence of one’s worship is thinking well of Allah. (Narrated in Ahmad)
