In response to the burning of the holy book by a Swedish far-right lawmaker at a protest in Stockholm last week, Malaysia will manufacture and distribute one million copies of the Quran throughout the world.

This, according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, is the only way to respond to Rasmus Paludan’s “insane and impudent” behaviour.

After touring the Nasyrul Quran Complex in this city today, he told reporters, “We are committed, God willing, to print and distribute a million copies of the Quran to the entire world in a short time.”

Anwar stated that Putrajaya would get in touch with other Islamic nations to better organise the distribution of the Qurans.

He said that the government would do so by launching a campaign with clear messages and literature aimed at helping people understand and appreciate the Quran.

Following Friday prayers, over 1,000 people protested the Swedish government’s lack of action against Paludan’s action by marching from the As-Syakirin KLCC mosque to the Swedish consulate.

Paludan claimed that the demonstration was conducted in opposition to Islam and the Turkish president’s efforts to restrict free speech in Sweden, according to an Arabic news source.

Muslim communities around the world were outraged by the incident last Saturday.

The Swedish embassy’s charge d’affaires in Kuala Lumpur was called in for an interview with Wisma Putra.
