Ramadan Preparation in Seven Steps
The Prophet’s Companions used to plan for Ramadan six months ahead of time. So, if we truly want to make the most of this Ramadan, we must begin planning today! Fasting, as we all know, entails not only abstaining from food but also from indecent speech and sexual cravings. Fasting forces us to be more aware of our actions, patient, and moral people, thereby enhancing our taqwa (God-consciousness). Here are several ways we might enhance many elements of our lives so that we can get the most out of Ramadan, which is a season when good acts are doubled.
- Fast Voluntarily
The month of Shaban, is the ideal time to begin fasting extra fasts or making up for missed fasts from the previous Ramadan.
‘Oh Messenger of Allah, I do not see you fasting in any other month like you fast in Shabaan,’ Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said. ‘That is a month between Rajab and Ramadan in which people do not pay attention, and it is a month in which deeds are lifted up to the Lord of the Worlds,’ he remarked. When I fast, I like for my good deeds to be praised.’ (Al-Nasaai narrates)
Fasting frequently to acquire control over your actions, stomach, and desires is the greatest approach to prepare for a month of fasting.
Fast Mondays and Thursdays: According to Abu Hurairah, the Prophet would fast the most on Mondays and Thursdays. When queried about it, he answered, “Every Monday and Thursday, people’s acts are offered to Allah.” Except for those who desert each other, Allah forgives every Muslim.” (Hasan)
Fast on the White Days, which fall on the 13th, 14th, and 15th days of each Islamic month:
“The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Oh Abu Dharr!’ said Abu Tharr Al-Ghefari. Fast the 13th, 14th, and 15th of every month (they are known as Al-Ayaam Al-Beedh, or the White Days) if you fast three days a month.’ (Sahih)
“Every good deed of Adam’s son is for him except fasting; it is for Me, and I will reward (the fasting person) for it,” the Prophet declared. “Indeed, Allah prefers the smell of a fasting person’s mouth than the smell of musk.” (Bukhari)
- Recite the Qur’an and Think About It
Begin reflecting on passages of the Qur’an right now to gain a stronger relationship with Allah and a better understanding of your obligations. Every time you read the Qur’an, you will discover new layers of meaning and usefulness in this life and the next.
“Indeed, the one who recites the Qur’an sweetly, effortlessly, and precisely will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels,” the Prophet stated, according to Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Whoever recites it with difficulty, stammering or faltering over its verses, will be rewarded twice as much.” (Muslim)
- Pray Extra Prayers and Follow the Sunnah

- Make a Dua’a and repent.
We all make mistakes, but we can always repent, alhamdulilah.
“All the offspring of Adam continually err,” the Prophet stated, “but the best of those who constantly wrong are those who constantly repent.” (Tirmidhi)
- Donate to charity
We can only make the world a better place if we help one another. Allah, in turn, blesses us in both worlds.
The messenger ﷺ said
“As long as Allah’s support is in the assistance of others, Allah is in the aid of His servant.” (Muslim)
“Who is it that would make a goodly loan to Allah so that He would multiply it for him and reward him with a magnificent reward?” (57:11 in the Qur’an)
“Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of misfortune,” the Prophet added. (Al-Tirmidhi)
- Strengthen Your Personality
Everyone can be a little nicer and improve on certain areas of their personality.
“The best among you are those who have the best manners and character,” the Prophet used to say. (al-Bukhari)
- Consume Nutritious Foods in Moderate Amounts
We must pay special attention to what we eat during Ramadan because we have less time to eat. The best time to look into the nutritional content of the foods we eat is right now. When we fast, the food we eat before we begin or break our fast must give us with the maximum amount of energy so that we can complete our daily chores and increase our worship.
Overeating is also dangerous.
“I haven’t filled myself in 16 years since it makes the body heavy, destroys clean understanding, causes slumber, and makes one weak for worship,” Ash-Shafi’i added.
To make the most of this holy month, we must spiritually, psychologically, and physically prepare ourselves. Insha’Allah, if we consistently strive to develop ourselves, we will be able to effortlessly advance spiritually when Ramadan arrives.
