Five ways to improve your wealth from Qur’an and Sunnah
3 min read
When it comes to wealth, many people will go to any length to obtain it. Regardless of whether it was obtained through illegal means or not, the goal is to make money. Being affluent is merely a means to an end; it is not an end in itself. Only a few people are content with little, yet the majority of people do not express gratitude for this blessing. “I pondered of many kinds of wealth, but couldn’t discover a finer richness than happiness in a little,” stated the khalifah Umar ibn Khattab Radiallahu Anhu.
As the Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam and the salaf of this ummah have demonstrated, the best of wealth is found in satisfaction. There will be no impoverished or disadvantaged people among them if people learn to be content with what they have. Even if you just have a few possessions in this life, if you are content with what Allah has provided you, you will be powerful and in no need of others. “I recognised that happiness is the core of richness, and I adhered to it, thus I never stood at anyone’s door or begged anyone,” Imam Ash-Shaafi‘i remarked. As a result, I became wealthy without owning a dirham, walking about like a king.”
As a result, regardless of how fortunate you are, the goal is to find contentment in small things and express thankfulness. This is the real-world technique for becoming wealthy. Here are some wealth-building suggestions:
5 Islamic Principles to be a successful entrepreneur
- Prevent usury (Ar-Riba):
In today’s society, usury has been reimagined as a lovely thing. Allah has taken away the blessing from it, no matter how pleasant it appears. Allah (SWT) declares…
“Those who eat Riba (interest) will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except as a person beaten by Shaitan (Satan) and driven insane. That is because they claim that “trade is just like Riba (usury),” despite the fact that Allah has permitted trading while prohibiting Riba (usury). So whomever hears a warning from his Lord and ceases eating Riba (usury) will not be punished for what he has done in the past; his case will be decided by Allah; but whoever returns [to Riba (usury), such are the inhabitants of the Fire, and they will live therein.”
Qur’an 2[al-Baqarah]:275 - Demonstrate gratitude:
Gratitude is a fruit of considerable cultivation that is not seen among the uncultured. “And remember when your Lord said: “If you pay thanks, I will grant you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed terrible,” Allah says.
Qur’an 14 [Ibrahim]:7 - Seek forgiveness from Allah:
Hasan al-Basri once received a complaint from a man who said, “The sky does not shower us with rain.” “Seek Allah’s forgiveness,” he said. Then another individual approached him and said, “I’m in poverty.” “Seek Allah’s forgiveness,” he said. Then another individual approached him and expressed his dissatisfaction, saying, “My wife is barren; she is unable to bear children.” “Seek Allah’s forgiveness,” he responded. “Every time a person came to you grumbling, you instructed them to seek Allah’s forgiveness?” the individuals present asked al-Hasan. “Have you not read Allah’s statement?” said al-Hasan al-Basri. ‘Ask forgiveness from your Lord; indeed He is Oft-Forgiving,’ I told them. He will provide you abundant rain, as well as enhance your wealth and children, and bestow on your gardens and rivers.” Qur’an 71[Nuh]:10–12 - Maintain family links:
According to Allah’s Apostle Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam, “anyone would like his provisions increased and life extended should maintain family relations.” (Bukhari). - Give charity:
Allah says, “Spend, O son of Adam, and I will spend on you.” “Charity does not reduce wealth,” stated by Prophet Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam. (Muslim, Bukhari)
