Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays has immense rewards



Islam teaches us a lot, Alhamdulilah for this religion. The voluntary fasting on Monday and Thursday is one of the things we are taught. Fasting for Allah’s sake has an infinite reward. According to Abu Hurayrah (ra), the Prophet (saw) said:

Allah (swt) says, “Fasting is Mine, and I am the one who rewards it.” For the love of me, (a man) sacrifices his sexual drive, his food, and his drink. Fasting is like a shield, and the faster has two joys: one when he breaks his fast and another when he sees his Lord. In Allah’s (swt) view, the change in the breath of a fasting person is preferable to the scent of musk. Sahih Al Bukhari.

Every week of the month, we should fast on Mondays and Thursdays. This good deed will ensure that we fast 8 days every month, meeting the three-day fasting recommendation by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

When asked about the voluntary fasting on Mondays, the Prophet (saw) said,

“I was born on that day, and it was on that day that the Revelation came to me.”

Sahih Muslim

In addition, our beloved Prophet (saw) stated that “people’s deeds are offered to Allah (swt) on Mondays and Thursdays, thus I prefer that my activities be presented while I am fasting.” Fasting provides several health benefits in addition to the religious benefits of fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. Scientific benefits of fasting

  1. Helps to control blood sugar levels by lowering insulin resistance.
    Fasting has been shown in several trials to improve blood sugar control, which could be especially beneficial for people at risk of diabetes.

In fact, a study of ten persons with type 2 diabetes found that short-term intermittent fasting reduced blood sugar levels considerably .

Meanwhile, another study indicated that intermittent fasting and alternate-day fasting were equally efficient at reducing insulin resistance as calorie restriction.

Insulin resistance can be reduced by increasing your body’s sensitivity to insulin, allowing glucose to be transported more efficiently from your bloodstream to your cells.

This, together with the potential blood sugar-lowering effects of fasting, could help keep your blood sugar stable, minimising blood sugar spikes and crashes.

Keep in mind, however, that fasting may affect blood sugar levels differently in men and women, according to some research.

For example, a three-week study found that alternate-day fasting harmed women’s blood sugar regulation while having no effect on men.

Summary Intermittent and alternate-day fasting may help lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin resistance, but they may have distinct effects on men and women.

    While acute inflammation is a natural immune response that aids in the fight against infection, persistent inflammation can have major health repercussions.

Inflammation has been linked to the development of chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis, according to research.

Fasting has been shown in certain studies to help reduce inflammation and promote improved health.

Intermittent fasting for one month reduced levels of inflammatory markers in 50 healthy adults, according to one study.

Another tiny study found that participants who fasted for 12 hours a day for a month had the same impact.

Furthermore, one animal study discovered that eating a very low-calorie diet to simulate the effects of fasting lowered inflammation and was helpful in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, a chronic inflammatory disease.

Fasting has been shown in certain trials to reduce various markers of inflammation and may be effective in the treatment of inflammatory disorders like multiple sclerosis.

  1. Improves blood pressure, triglycerides, and cholesterol levels, which may improve heart health.
    Heart disease is the largest cause of death in the world, accounting for approximately 31.5 percent of all deaths.

One of the most effective methods to lower your risk of heart disease is to change your food and lifestyle.

According to several studies, incorporating fasting into your daily routine may be very advantageous to your heart health.

A tiny study found that fasting on alternate days for eight weeks lowered levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol and blood triglycerides by 25% and 32%, respectively.

Another research of 110 obese adults found that fasting for three weeks under physician supervision reduced blood pressure, blood triglycerides, total cholesterol, and “bad” LDL cholesterol levels considerably.

Fasting was also linked to a lower risk of coronary artery disease and a much lower chance of diabetes, which is a key risk factor for heart disease, according to a research of 4,629 participants.
