3 min read
As we diligently pray for our Duas to be answered, keep an eye out for these finest periods, so that Allah s.w.t. may best fulfil our prayers:
- In the last third of the night During Tahajjud
The Prophet s.a.w. said,
“Every night, when one-third of the night remains, Our Lord, the Blessed and Exalted, descends to the lowest sky and says: Who supplicates Me so that I may answer him?” Who begs Me for something so that I might give it to him?”
(Sahih Muslim)
- After every Fard Salah (Obligatry Prayer 5 times a Day)
According to the hadith reported by Abu Umamah r.a,
“O Messenger of Allah, which Dua is heard?” it was asked. “In the last portion of the night, and after every compulsory prayer,” he explained.
Sunan At-Tirmizi
Some scholars believe that dabr al-salawt al-maktbah (after the required prayers) is performed before the Salm. “The word dabr refers to something that is part of a thing, such as dabr al-hayawn (an animal’s hindquarters),” Ibn Taymiyah explained.
- Between the Azan and the Iqmah
The Prophet s.a.w. said,
“A Dua between the Azan and the Iqmah is not rejected.”
Sunan At-Tirmizi (Sunan At-Tirmizi)
- Saying Dua on a daily basis during spare time and in good health
The Prophet s.a.w. said,
“If someone enjoys receiving an answer from God in tough times, he should make many supplications in happy times.”
Sunan At-Tirmizi (Sunan At-Tirmizi)
Al-Mubrakfr noted in his book Tuhfat al-Ahwaz that al-rakh’ (when times are easy) refers to excellent health and free time.
What is the Dua of Prophet Yunus A.S?
- On Fridays, between Asar and Maghrib.
The Prophet s.a.w. said,
“Friday is twelve hours long. One of them states that if a Muslim requests Allah for something, he will receive it. After ‘Asar,’ look for it in the last hour.
Sunan An-Nasa’i
- Between Two Khutbahs of Friday Prayer
Abu Hurairah r.a. reported that the Messenger of Allah s.a.w. said:
“A Muslim will be granted whatever he (or she) is supplicating for at a certain point on Friday when saying a prayer and supplicating.” He then made a point with his hand to show that this is a very brief period of time.
(Muslim and Sahih Al-Bukhari)
- During Sujud in prayer,
The Prophet s.a.w said,
“When a slave is doing sujd, he is the closest to his Lord (Allah), thus increase in supplication.” (Sahih Muslim)
- While sipping Zamzam water
The Prophet s.a.w. said,
“Zamzam’s water is good for whatever it’s used for.”
Sunan Ibn Majah (Sunan Ibn Majah)
- At Ramadan, particularly before breaking the fast, on the last ten nights, and during the Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Power)
When a servant performs excellent deeds, including ‘ibdah in the form of Dua, Ramadan, the finest month of the year, is loaded with immense bounties. According to the Prophet s.a.w.,
“There are three people whose Duas are not rejected: the fasting person until he breaks the fast, the just ruler, and the oppressed person, whose Dua Allah raises above the clouds and opens the doors of Jannah for them, and Allah says: “I swear by My Honour, verily I shall assist you, even if it is after some time.”
Sunan At-Tirmizi (Sunan At-Tirmizi)
And, because the last ten nights of Ramadan are considered the finest nights of the year, saying Dua during those evenings is strongly encouraged. ‘Aishah r.a. stated on Laylatul Qadr, “I asked the Messenger of Allah, O Messenger of Allah, what shall I supplicate in it if I realise Laylatul Qadr?” “Say,” he said.
“O Allah, You are forgiving and You delight in forgiving, so forgive me.”

The Sunnah and Etiquettes of Making Dua
10. On the first ten days of Zulhijjah and the day of Arafah, while performing hajj, the Prophet s.a.w. remarked,
“There are no days in which Allah s.w.t. loves virtuous acts more than these (first ten) days (of Zulhijjah).”
Sunan Ibn Majah
He also remarked in another hadith,
“Dua on the day of ‘Arafah is the greatest of Dua.”
